Welcome to Sunshine Coast Bridge Club.

Covid19 Vaccination Policy from 17 December 2021: Our Club takes very seriously its duty of care to try to keep its members, volunteers and officials as safe as possible. It was decided at the Management Committee meeting on 19 November that from 17 December 2021, our Club will only permit people who are double-vaccinated to attend sessions and events at our clubhouse. This is in keeping with Government and community standards and is identical to the vaccination policy introduced by the Queensland Bridge Association.

This requirement is not limited just to club members, but applies to everyone including non-members, non-players, kibitzers, beginners, employees, volunteers, contractors, and food preparers.

The onus is on the individual person to provide satisfactory evidence that they are vaccinated, typically a Government issued vaccination certificate (electronically or in paper form). The exact procedure for managing this has yet to be determined, and will be communicated to members as soon as possible.

More details are available from the Queensland Health web site along with their chart showing the plan for 80% and beyond. [posted Sun 28-Nov-21]

Charity Day to support Parkinson's Disease Research: Wednesday 27 October was dedicated to the Club's annual charity day and the response by our members was exceptional. There was an excellent turnout - 26.5 tables in the morning session and a further six tables in the evening - and the amount raised for Shake It Up Australia Foundation for Parkinson's Research was $3,201. Of that, $1,542 came from the table fees, $1,104 from the sale of tickets in the monster raffle, and $555 in cash donations. Every dollar of this money will be devoted to the Foundation's projects.

Appreciation and much thanks go to all those who came to play, and to those who gave so generously, be it raffle prizes, money or food. Special thanks to Tricia Merefield who organised the whole of the day's events so successfully. [posted Thu 28-Oct-21]

Covid19 Update - Monday 6 September: We are now back to our full complement of 32 tables, and therefore pre-registration is no longer necessary.

Face masks are still with us though, and members are reminded that there is still a requirement for 100% compliance with this rule, except for those with medical conditions making it not possible to wear masks. Those with such medical reasons must be able to provide a medical certificate.

The Club and recalcitrant player/s can be fined if visiting police encounter non-compliance.

We have updated our Covid19 Plan to incorporate the latest requirements. [posted Mon 6-Sep-21]

Interclub Teams 2021: The snap lockdown earlier this month meant the suspension of our annual Interclub Teams after 4 matches. It was decided that the result will be determined by the position after the 4 matches played, and this has meant that the Sunshine Coast Bridge Club won the event and holds the title for another year. MyABF portal for bridge players: The first part of the ABF IT strategy, the MyABF portal, has been released. This gives members a personalised dashboard view of ABF announcements, a range of bridge-related discussion forums, and a full record of your masterpoints, going back 10 years. It will eventually include your personal calendar showing upcoming bridge events you're booked, your recent results, and much more.

MyABF also includes a method to enter congresses and pay for entries in a variety of ways, including by credit card. Our June congress is using MyABF to manage entries - click for details. It does mean that all players at the congress need to register with MyABF, but this is very simple - just visit MyABF, enter your ABF number, email address and choose a password, and then click on the email that will be sent to your Inbox. That's all. If you have difficulties setting up a MyABF account, you can contact Peter Busch.

The expectation is that all gold point events and many club congresses around Australia will use this facility within a year or two.

The ABF hopes that by the end of this year, MyABF will be extended to allow clubs to collect table fees in the same way. Members will buy "credits" (like we did with BBO dollars), and table fees will automatically be deducted via the scoring program. Members can add funds to their account whenever they like, or set up an automatic top-up.

For lots of information about this new facility, click MyABF Resources. [posted Sat 17-Apr-21]

Covid19 Plan updated: The Club's Covid19 Safe Plan has been revised to allow visitors from anywhere in Australia, but subject of course to them or a close contract not being in a declared hotspot in the previous 14 days. The latest document is here (amended 15 January 2021).

A reminder of the continuing procedures:-

A condition of entry to the Club is that players will need to answer No to all the following questions: * Have you been diagnosed with Covid19? * In the last 14 days have you (a) been in contact with a confirmed case of Covid19, (b) returned from overseas or other mandated hotspot, or (c) been in contact with someone who has recently returned from overseas or other mandated hotspot? * Do you have any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat or difficulty breathing (other than asthma)?

We will be conducting non-contact temperature checks at the door (37 degrees or less to be admitted). Remember to bring your own pen or pencil and water container; once in the clubhouse, social distancing is to be observed where possible - no hugs, no handshakes, and keep at least 1.5 metres from others where possible; and practise good hygiene.
