Welcome to Sunshine Coast Bridge Club.

Session pre-registrations are back for some sessions: As a result of table numbers exceeding our maximums at some sessions, we have re-introduced session pre-registration for Wednesday and Friday mornings. There is a link at the top of the breaking News column at left.

The process is simpler and more automated than before. Entries are accessed by logging in with your club number and email address, and you can then view entry lists and enter sessions up to 4 weeks in advance. Edits and deletions can only be made by the person making the original entry, and you can enter anyone you wish - you don't need to be part of the entry yourself. [posted Mon 19-Oct-20]

2020 Teams Championship: The 2020 Teams Championship was contested over three Thursdays in September and 18 teams competed in a qualifying and final.

Winners of the Championship were the Jakes team (pictured top, from left left): David Harris, Sam Halvorsen (missing Maureen Jakes and Abby Wanigaratne), and the winners of the Plate were the Martin Team (pictured bottom, from left Fay Stanton, Anne Young, Jim and Lyn Martin.

Club President Brian Cordiner (pictured at right in both pics) presented the prizes.

Club re-opening - more sessions starting: The Club has recommenced all sessions now, following the Covid shutdown. We are playing Monday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, and Wednesday nights. We will be following our COVID19 Safe Plan (amended 19 September 2020).

A condition of entry to the Club is that players will need to answer No to all the following questions:
* Have you been diagnosed with Covid19?
* In the last 14 days have you (a) been in contact with a confirmed case of Covid19, (b) returned from overseas, Victoria or other mandated hotspot, or (c) been in contact with someone who has recently returned from overseas, Victoria or other mandated hotspot?
* Do you have any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat or difficulty breathing (other than asthma)?

We will be conducting non-contact temperature checks at the door (37° or less to be admitted). Remember to bring your own pen or pencil and water container; once in the clubhouse, social distancing is to be observed where possible - no hugs, no handshakes, and keep at least 1.5 metres from others; and practise good hygiene.

New discussion forum: In these challenging times, people need to stay engaged within their community. That's not easy when most of us are not even leaving our homes.

We've therefore decided to use technology to help our members stay connected with each other, and have set up a Discussion Forum. It's a place where people can post comments about pretty much anything (within reason), and others can view and reply. It''s not limited to bridge - in fact as most of us aren't playing much bridge there will probably be very little about bridge - but rather it's about anything that you think others in the Sunshine Coast bridge community may be interested in.

The Forum will be just like having conversions with lots of people, while still observing social distancing.

Anyone can view posts, but you need to register in order to post new topics and reply to existing topics. Registration is open to members, but we're also opening it to the broader Sunshine Coast bridge community. To register, visit the Forum and click "Sign up" on the top right side. When you register, you'll be asked to create a user name and to enter your Club or ABF number. The Club / ABF number will remain private but helps us keep spammers and inappropriate posts off the forum. [posted Mon 30-Mar-20]

Gold Coast Congress victories: Gabrielle Elich and David Christian had a successful week at the 2020 Gold Coast Congress (pictured top right with their teammates). They finished first in the Intermediate B Grade Pairs, and second in the Intermediate Teams Championship.

Gary Petterson and Laurie Bell (pictured bottom right) won the B Grade Restricted Pairs. Gary and Laurie won the Friday Novice Pairs last year.

Other notable performances included Ken Dawson and Andy Slater (3rd place Monday Butler).

It was also great to see a few of our newer players playing in this international event, including Kim and Lesley Rouse, Sally Weedon - Janet Benstead, Linda Darnell - Wendy Gibberd, Julia Benfield - Phil O'Shea, Carmel Dwan - Heather McKelvie-Morris, and Betty Markkanan - Collette Anderson, all of whom played in either the Under 10 Masterpoints or Under 50 Masterpoints events. Qld Senior Teams 2020: The 2020 Qld Senior Teams was hosted by our club on 1/2 February 2020. A total of 32 teams competed, including many from Brisbane and other areas.

The trophy was won by the Crowley team pictured (Liz Zeller, Alison Dawson, Richard Perry, Rosemary Crowley). The trophy was present to the winners by Richard Ward (pictured far left of photo, on behalf of the QBA.

Second place went to Laws (Vilma Laws, Jilliana Bell, Ken Rogers, Wendy O'Brien), and third place to Olsen (Geoff Olsen, Maureen Jakes, Lyn Martin, Jim Martin). It was pleasing to see that the top three positions were occupied by teams from our Club.

The B Category was won by the Rohde team(Jack Rohde, Lex Ranke, Gregory Gosney, Margaret Plunkett). See more... [posted Sun 2-Feb-20]
